Public Engagement

Learn more about how our researchers engage with the public and find out about upcoming opportunities and events.

We actively engage with schools, colleges and our local community through a range of activities, presentations and events specially designed to help you and your students learn more about the research we do, opportunities available to work with us or study on our courses. Our researchers and Postgraduate Research Students are keen to share their knowledge, expertise and skills with you as well as involve the public and stakeholder groups with projects and decision-making.

Public engagement with research describes a diversity of activities including:

  • Participating in festivals
  • Working with museums/ galleries/science centres and other cultural venues
  • Creating opportunities for the public to inform the research questions being tackled
  • Researchers and public working together to inform policy
  • Presenting to the public (e.g. public lectures or talks)
  • Involving the public as researchers (e.g. web-based experiments)
  • Engaging with young people to inspire them about research (e.g. workshops in schools)
  • Contributing to new media enabled discussion forums.
